Announcing OneDrive for Business location picker support for security groups and distribution lists

Data loss prevention (DLP) for OneDrive for Business will soon support user accounts and groups as part of the policy scoping location picker.

This feature is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 70708

When this will happen

Rollout will begin in early March and should be complete by mid-March 2021.

How this will affect your organization

With this update to the OneDrive for Business location picker, you will have more granular control on the DLP policy scope within the Microsoft 365 compliance center, such as the ability to include or exclude departments, business units, or geo-specific security groups.

Note: The DLP policy applies to the existing membership of security groups or distribution groups. The policy will be updated automatically to reflect any changes in membership.

What you need to do to prepare

There will be no impact to existing Data Loss Prevention policies. Once available, you will see the new options as part of the OneDrive for Business policy setting in the Microsoft 365 compliance center.
