Starting June 1, 2026, Microsoft will disable Teams meeting recording expiration notification emails for all Microsoft 365 tenants to reduce notification noise. Recording expiration and deletion remain unchanged. No admin action is needed, but organizations can notify users or update documentation if desired.

New URBAC permission to preview email content in Microsoft Defender for Office 365

Unified RBAC enabled by default for new Microsoft Defender for Office 365 tenants

Starting May 30, 2026, new Microsoft Defender for Office 365 Plan 2 tenants will have Unified RBAC enabled by default, offering centralized, granular access control. Existing tenants remain unchanged but can opt in anytime. Administrators should review roles and update documentation for new tenants accordingly.

Endpoint Data Loss Prevention: Always-on diagnostics for Windows endpoints (Phase 2)

Phase 2 of always-on diagnostics for Endpoint Data Loss Prevention enables admins to collect diagnostic traces from Windows endpoints via the Purview portal without user involvement, improving troubleshooting. Rolling out worldwide from March 2026, it requires admin enablement and does not affect existing DLP policies.

Always-on diagnostics for Endpoint DLP – Turned on by default

Starting mid-April 2026, Always-on diagnostics for Endpoint DLP will be enabled by default on Windows devices, storing diagnostic logs locally for 90 days to aid troubleshooting. Admins can opt out anytime via Microsoft Purview. This improves issue resolution but may affect investigation efficiency if disabled.

AI Admin RBAC updates

The AI Administrator role is updated to support Agent 365, enabling delegated agent management without Global Admin involvement for routine tasks. Rollout starts March 2026. AI Admins gain expanded permissions for agent lifecycle management, tenant-wide consent (excluding Microsoft Graph app permissions), and risk monitoring via Identity Protection, enhancing security and compliance.

Microsoft Teams: Ad-hoc room reservation from Teams Rooms on Windows console

Microsoft Teams Rooms on Windows will support ad-hoc room reservations directly from the console, enabling quick bookings without personal devices. This feature, requiring a Teams Rooms Pro license, rolls out globally starting late April 2026, is enabled by default, and can be managed via the Teams Rooms Pro Management portal.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: People agent availability update

The People agent in Frontier will retire in March 2026, with its key features integrated into core Microsoft 365 Copilot. No admin or user action is needed. Users can still use the People companion app and Org Explorer. Feedback via Frontier remains encouraged. No compliance issues identified.
