Retirement of several Microsoft Planner features in early 2026 as part of a Planner update

In early 2026, Microsoft Planner will roll out a major update with new features like task chats and custom templates, while retiring features including the old task comments, whiteboard tab for premium plans, iCalendar feed, Planner integration in Viva Goals, and Planner components in Loop pages. Some features will be temporarily unavailable. No admin action is needed.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: Add web links as references in Copilot Notebooks

Microsoft 365 Copilot Notebooks will allow users with a Copilot license to add public web links as references, expanding beyond file types like Word and Excel. This feature, enabled by default, will roll out worldwide from mid-November 2025 to mid-January 2026. No special preparation is needed.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: Data source-specific filters in search

Microsoft 365 Copilot search will introduce dynamic, data source-specific filters for Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, and others, enabling precise result refinement. This feature, requiring a Copilot license, will roll out from mid-November 2025 to early January 2026, enabled by default with no admin changes needed.

Microsoft 365 Admin Center: Retirement of Technology Experiences score from Adoption Score

The Technology Experience score and its sub-scores will be retired from the Microsoft 365 Adoption Score between Jan 15-30, 2026. The Adoption Score will then reflect only the People Experiences sub-score, reducing the maximum score from 900 to 600. This change is automatic and affects admins, not end users.

Automatic Windows event auditing configuration availability for unified sensors (V3.x)

Starting January 2026, Microsoft Defender for Identity unified sensors (v3.x) will offer an opt-in feature for automatic Windows event-auditing configuration, simplifying deployment by auto-applying required settings on new and misconfigured existing sensors. Admins must enable this feature via UI or Graph API.

Action Required: Trust DigiCert Global Root G2 Certificate Authority for using Entra services by January 7, 2026

By January 7, 2026, Microsoft Entra will switch from DigiCert Global Root G1 to G2 certificates. Organizations must trust the DigiCert G2 root CA to avoid authentication failures with Entra services and remove any client-side pinning to the G1 root. Update settings to prevent disruption.

Teams admin center: Troubleshoot meetings and calls with automatic issue identification and recommendations

Teams admin center will enhance meeting troubleshooting with automatic issue identification, detailed participant data, smarter search, and M365 Copilot integration. Rollout begins late January 2026, enabling admins to quickly diagnose and resolve meeting and call problems with improved tools and insights.

How to use Microsoft Intune to update expiring Secure Boot certificates

You can now deploy, manage, and monitor Secure Boot certificate updates. This method represents an alternative to setting registry keys and using Group Policy. You can use Intune to deploy on all domain-joined Windows clients, opt out of high-confidence buckets, and opt in to Microsoft managing these updates.

Coming Soon: Anthropic models will be available by default in Copilot experiences

Starting January 7, 2026, Anthropic models will be enabled by default in many Microsoft 365 Copilot experiences under Microsoft’s Product Terms and Data Protection Addendum. Admins can toggle this setting, with default off in EU/EFTA, UK, and government clouds. Anthropic is now a Microsoft subprocessor, ensuring contractual and data protection compliance.
