Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Object Character Recognition (OCR) support for embedded images in Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams

We are extending the Object Character Recognition (OCR) for Exchange Online and Microsoft Teams in Microsoft Purview to support images embedded in more file types such as: Hybrid PDF files, which are PDF files with both images and searchable text, Microsoft Office files with the extensions DOCX, PPTX, XLSX , Container files such as zip, rar, 7z, and more.

Reminder: Stream (Classic) retires on April 15, 2024, and all unmigrated videos will be deleted

Microsoft will retire Stream (Classic) on April 15, 2024 and all videos on Stream (Classic) will be deleted after the retirement date. Stream (Classic) has already been auto disabled for end users, and admins can delay this change till the retirement date. Admins must migrate their tenant’s Stream (Classic) data to Stream (on SharePoint) before the retirement date to prevent data loss.

Stream (Classic)’s successor service, Stream (on SharePoint), entered general availability in October 2022. We recommend that you:

Improved copy + paste link experience in Viva Engage web/browser

Viva Engage is improving the copy link experience on its web/browser surface. When users copy a link from the “Copy Link” button conversation card, pasting the link will render a short summary of the content. No content is moved, removed, or changed with this update.

eDiscovery – Retirement post for search-mailbox cmdlet

We would like to inform you that the Microsoft 365 Purview eDiscovery standard search-mailbox cmdlet is being retired. Originally announced in 2020, this was postponed as this cmdlet has been a valuable tool for searching and exporting mailbox data for legal and compliance purposes. However, as we continue to improve and enhance our eDiscovery capabilities, we are moving to other means of providing similar functionality.

Please note that after the deprecation date, the search-mailbox cmdlet will no longer be supported, and you will need to evaluate other options to meet your requirements.

Microsoft Teams: User experience improvements for Multi-Tenant Organization (MTO) users

Note: If you are not a multi-tenant organization, you can safely ignore this message.

This release features user experience improvements when Microsoft Teams users interact with users in another tenant that belongs to their organization (e.g., for conglomerates, as a result of M&A).

New Policy: Turn Off Teams Meeting Feedback Surveys for Unauthenticated Users

We will be introducing the existing Teams Meetings feedback surveys (such as NPS) to unauthenticated users that join Teams Meetings. When an unauthenticated user joins a meeting originating from your organization, they may be eligible to receive a prompt to complete a feedback survey on their Microsoft Teams experience. We will be introducing a new Teams Meeting Configuration policy setting that will allow tenant admins to disable all Teams Meeting feedback surveys for unauthenticated users if needed.

Toggle to try the Preview of new Outlook for Windows in Semi-Annual Channel

In Spring 2023, we expanded access to the preview of the new Outlook for Windows to users in Current Channel and Monthly Enterprise Channel. In September, this toggle was also released to Semi-Annual Channel Preview. The experience is an option to try, and nothing will change without end users taking action. We will give notice before any required changes occur, after the preview has received sufficient usage and feedback.
