Microsoft Purview Audit: General availability of New Search functionality

Currently available in public preview (MC391072), we’re introducing new search functionality for Microsoft Purview Audit (Standard) and Audit (Premium).

This message is associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 93236.

When this will happen:

Rollout to general availability will begin in late September and is expected to be complete by late October.

How this will affect your organization:

Microsoft Purview Audit is announcing an update to the Audit Search available for both Audit (Standard) and Audit (Premium) customers. This revamp of the search tool builds on the familiar search interface that currently enables searching across critical audit log events to understand user actions and gain insight into the security of company data.

The launch of New Search also introduces the following feature updates:

  • Users can run 10 concurrent audit search jobs and review the progress percentage, number of results, and job status all from the UI.
  • Historical search job results are stored for 30 days and can be accessed after completion; users can filter and export this data.
  • Search jobs continue to run, even if you close the browser. Active jobs and detailed results will be available to view and access when you return to Audit Search home page.

What you need to do to prepare:

No action is needed to enable New Search. To use New Search, click on the New Search tab in the search tool on the Audit homepage. To utilize the existing Search functionality (Classic Search), click on the Search tab instead.

You can access the Audit solution in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal.
