Turned-Off Basic Authentication – All Protocols

We are making some changes to improve the security of your tenant. We announced in 2019 we would be retiring Basic Authentication for legacy protocols and in early 2021 we announced we would begin to retire Basic Authentication for protocols not being used in tenants. You can always read the latest information about our plans to turn off Basic Authentication here .

Today we turned off Basic Authentication for POP3, IMAP4, Remote PowerShell, Exchange Web Services, Offline Address Book, MAPI, RPC, SMTP AUTH and Exchange ActiveSync protocol in your tenant. Based on our telemetry, no-one is currently using Basic Authentication with those protocols in your tenant and so we expect there to be no impact to you.

Microsoft 365 compliance center: Information governance: Retention label deletion behavior change in SharePoint for Government clouds

Improved consistency of user experience between OneDrive and SharePoint, allowing users to “delete” files labeled with a retention label configured to “retain items for a specific period” as this operation is no longer blocked with an error message. When deleted, these files will still be preserved for compliance purposes by moving a copy of them to the “Preservation Hold Library” of the site where they can be accessed by eDiscovery and other compliance solutions.

,Now eDiscovery admins can designate specific SharePoint Online or OneDrive for Business sites to enable for historical versions functionality. This capability will enable organizations to quickly search across not only the current version of documents, but all the versions of the document.

EOP: Anti-Malware policy – Quarantine notifications for recipient

We will be retiring the recipient and sender notification configuration in the UI from anti-malware policies starting in March 2022. Instead, we recommend using quarantine policies, which allow administrators to configure and deliver notifications to recipients.

Microsoft Teams: Press to unmute

You can now stay muted to avoid unwanted background noise during a meeting and rapidly respond when called upon. You can now use a shortcut to unmute while holding down the keys Ctrl+Space (Windows) and Option+Space (macOS), then release keys to go back to muted state again. The feature is supported only on Teams Desktop.
