Microsoft Teams: Custom AI summary now available in Meeting Recap

Microsoft Teams is introducing a Custom AI Summary feature in Meeting Recap for Copilot users, allowing personalized meeting notes via templates or instructions. Rolling out mid-Dec 2025 to mid-Jan 2026, it’s enabled by default for licensed desktop users (English only) with no admin changes needed.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: “Hey Copilot” to start voice in Copilot on Windows devices

Starting late November 2025, Microsoft 365 Copilot on Windows will support hands-free voice activation by saying “Hey Copilot,” off by default and enabled in settings. It operates locally without recording audio, supports English activation, and requires manual muting or dismissal to end conversations.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: Copilot chats in search results

Microsoft 365 Copilot will integrate past Copilot chats into Microsoft Search, allowing users to retrieve historical conversations from notebooks, agents, and the main chat via a new “Copilot Chats” data source in search results. This feature requires a Copilot license and rolls out worldwide from November to December 2025.

Microsoft 365 Copilot: Voice chat in Microsoft 365 Copilot

Microsoft 365 Copilot is adding voice chat across desktop, web, and mobile apps like Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Rolling out from November 2025 to January 2026, licensed users can have natural voice conversations with Copilot, with transcripts stored securely. No admin control to disable this feature.

Updated UI for Copilot Chat entry point in Word, Excel and PowerPoint apps

The Copilot Chat entry point in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint will move from the ribbon to the document canvas starting December 2025. It includes contextual prompt suggestions, remains on by default, and requires no admin action unless adjusting the pinning setting for users without a Copilot license.

Microsoft Teams: Shared call history in Queues app

Microsoft Teams Queues app will introduce shared call history for queue members to view all call events. Rolling out January–February 2026, the feature is disabled by default and requires Teams Premium license and admin enablement. Tenant migration of call history is not supported initially.

Admins should update documentation, ensure network compatibility, and educate users. The new domain enhances security using Microsoft’s exclusive top-level domain.

WINS removal: Moving forward with modern name resolution

If you manage Windows Servers, plan for removal of Windows Internet Name Service (WINS). WINS was officially deprecated since Windows Server 2022 and will be removed from all Windows Server releases following Windows Server 2025. Standard support will continue through the lifecycle of Windows Server 2025, until November 2034. We encourage you to migrate to modern Domain Name System (DNS)-based name resolution solutions before then.
