OneDrive: Files deleted from the cloud will no longer appear in the local Recycle Bin or Trash

Starting May 2026, files deleted from OneDrive cloud won’t appear in local Recycle Bin or Trash but can be recovered from the OneDrive or SharePoint web recycle bin. Local deletes remain unchanged. No admin action needed; users should be informed about the new recovery process.

Replacement of the Microsoft SaRA command-line utility in Windows

Migrate away from the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant utility (SaRA). This command-line utility is deprecated to help secure and harden your environment. The Get Help command-line tool has similar capabilities and is recommended as a replacement for the SaRA utility. You’ll need to download it and use GetHelpCmd.exe to run your scenarios.

Anthropic Models for Copilot in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on by Default

Starting May 4, 2026, Anthropic models will be enabled by default for Copilot in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with data processing outside the EU Data Boundary. Admins can review or change this setting anytime in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. Word support begins summer 2026.

Enabling Flex Routing in the EU and EFTA

Starting April 17, 2026, Microsoft enables flex routing for EU and EFTA tenants using Copilot, allowing LLM inferencing outside the EU Data Boundary during peak demand. Data remains encrypted, with limited pseudonymized data stored outside. Flex routing is on by default but can be managed in the Microsoft 365 admin center.

Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Endpoint DLP expands protection to Copilot PC Recall snapshots

Microsoft Purview Endpoint DLP will support Copilot+ PCs by protecting Windows Recall snapshots from capturing sensitive content. Admins can create custom policies for these devices, with rollout starting April 2026. The feature is off by default and requires coordination with Intune and policy updates.

Outlook for Android and iOS: Support for shareable links beautification and permissions in meeting description

Outlook for Android and iOS will automatically beautify shareable links in meeting descriptions starting mid-April 2026. Users can view and update link permissions directly, and Outlook will alert if attendees lack access. This feature is enabled by default with no admin action required.

Microsoft Teams: Honor Windows “Do not disturb” setting

Microsoft Teams on Windows 11+ will offer an opt-in toggle to suppress Teams toast notifications when Windows “Do not disturb” is enabled, starting May 2026. This feature respects existing Windows DND settings, affects only Windows 11 or later, and requires no admin action.

Viva Engage: At-Mentions & Replies notifications improvements

Viva Engage will roll out smarter At-Mention and Reply notifications starting April 2026, sending alerts via the user’s most engaged channel to reduce notification fatigue. Secondary alerts occur if unopened within an hour. No admin action is needed, but user communication is recommended. Existing preferences remain respected.

Outlook Mobile will add a user-controlled setting to keep or delete meeting invitations after responding, aligning with Outlook on the web and new Outlook. Rolling out mid-April to mid-May 2026 worldwide, no admin action is needed, and the setting roams across platforms per user account.
