Microsoft Purview Information Protection moving to AES256-CBC mode for encryption of email and Office files

Microsoft Purview Information Protection will begin to use Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) with 256-bit key length in Cipher Block Chaining mode (AES256-CBC) by default for encryption of Office documents and emails. If your organization is part of any of the four groups listed in this post, you must take action to update or opt out of this change.

Microsoft Bookings – Mobile Apps will be retired

Microsoft Bookings is part of Microsoft 365 suite of products and is available through most commercial SKUs. In February 2023, we have removed the mobile apps from the Google Playstore and Apple App Store (announced via MC441066, September ’22). However, users who had the app installed before this date could continue to use the app.

We will be retiring these mobile apps completely from July 15, 2023 so any users who had the mobile apps installed will not be able to access Bookings via the mobile app.

Viva Goals: Manual status computation

Viva Goals unveils enhanced status control for OKRs and projects. Previously, when setting up an OKR or project, customers had limited control over the status, as it was solely dependent on progress. However, with the latest update, users now have the ability to compute the status independently, giving them greater control and flexibility.

Future of the Mail and Calendar apps in Windows with Outlook

Next year we will be replacing the Mail and Calendar apps in Windows with the new Outlook for Windows starting in September 2024. There are no changes for now, but your users might see a MailTip in the Mail and Calendar apps letting them know of the change.

Action Required: Allow list Azure Front Door service tags

We are updating the recommendation for controlling access to Power Platform URLs and IP address ranges. Our current guidance is to configure your allow-lists using the “AzureCloud” service tag in the Azure IP Ranges and Service Tags JSON files. If you have created a customized implementation of allow-list entries, you will need to update your allow-list to avoid disruption of service.

Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Auditing for Microsoft Project, Planner and Microsoft To Do

To provide customers with further support to investigate incidents, suspicious activity and/or malicious changes within their organization, auditing of user and app activities for Microsoft Project, Microsoft Planner and Microsoft To Do will be available in the Microsoft Purview compliance portal as well as in all tenants and regions where Project, Planner and To Do are supported.
