Originally announced in MC427760 (September ’22), Outlook on the web is updating where some message-compose options are located, depending on how you use Outlook.

  1. For all users – The formatting bar will be relocated to the top of the message compose window, similar to the common “ribbon” you see in other Microsoft apps.
  2. For all users – When composing a new email message, the “Send”, “Discard”, and formatting bar will now be located at the top of the compose window.
  3. For users with “newest on top” option – When you reply to a message, the “Send”, “Discard”, and formatting bar will be located at top of the compose window.

Images in email signatures are by default treated as attachments, which could make it seem like a user is sending emails with attachments many times a day, creating many false alerts in Insider Risk Management. With this update, admins can choose to exclude images in signatures automatically to reduce noisy signals. Microsoft Purview Insider Risk Management correlates various signals to identify potential malicious or inadvertent insider risks, such as IP theft, data leakage, and security violations. Insider Risk Management enables customers to create policies to manage security and compliance. Built with privacy by design, users are pseudonymized by default, and role-based access controls and audit logs are in place to help ensure user-level privacy.

With this update, the file type exclusion will extend to email attachments to help reduce noisy signals. Idle session timeout feature allows IT admins to configure a tenant-wide timeout value based on which users get automatically signed out after a period of inactivity on Microsoft 365 web apps. This feature is an improvement over, and will eventually replace, current idle timeout settings in Outlook Web App (OWA) and SharePoint Online (SPO).
