Microsoft Defender for Office 365: Auto-Remediation of Malicious Similarity Clusters in AIR

We are expanding the auto-remediation capabilities in Automated Investigations and Response (AIR) to fully automate the remediation of malicious similarity clusters. Earlier this year, we introduced auto-remediation for malicious URL and file clusters. Building on that foundation, this enhancement enables AIR to automatically approve all pending remediation actions it generates—eliminating the need for manual intervention and streamlining the response process for SOC teams. This advancement significantly reduces response time and operational overhead, allowing security teams to focus on higher-priority threats.

Microsoft Teams | Customize live captions on mobile for improved accessibility

Microsoft Teams mobile now allows users to customize live captions by adjusting font color, background color, and caption height for better readability. These settings sync across devices, persist across sessions, and respect mobile accessibility preferences. The feature rolls out from September to November 2025 and requires no admin action.

Microsoft Teams | Enhanced privacy and improved stability for live captions and transcripts

Microsoft Teams will enhance privacy by showing only the last five minutes of captions when transcription is off, while full captions display when transcription is on. Stability improvements fix caption repositioning issues. Changes apply to desktop and Mac, roll out automatically from September 2025, with no admin action needed.

Microsoft Whiteboard: Azure to OneDrive migration progress update

Microsoft Whiteboard storage is migrating from Azure to OneDrive, starting February 2024 and completing by August 2025, with full deprecation of Azure storage by February 2026. Users must complete migration by then to retain access. Admins can monitor migration via PowerShell cmdlets.

Rewrite with Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat coming soon to Edge for Business users

Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat’s Rewrite feature will launch in Edge for Business by late September 2025, enabling users to draft and rephrase text via right-click. It’s enabled by default, subject to DLP restrictions, and manageable by admins through the InlineComposeEnabled policy. No prior admin action is needed.

SharePoint Online: Tenant rename General Availability (GA) for tenants with up to 500K sites

SharePoint Online Tenant Rename is now generally available for tenants with up to 500K sites, allowing domain name changes during rebranding or mergers. It ensures high reliability, business continuity, and compatibility with Microsoft 365 apps, but excludes vanity domains, Multi-Geo, and tenants over 500K sites.

Viva Engage Planned Maintenance

Viva Engage will undergo three planned maintenance windows starting September 13, 2025, each lasting about 12 hours. During these times, it will be in read-only mode—users can view content but cannot create, reply, edit, or perform write actions, receiving error messages if attempted.

Retirement of “Add to existing remediation” option in Microsoft Defender for Office 365

Starting October 1, 2025, Microsoft Defender for Office 365 will retire the “Add to existing remediation” option due to low usage. Users must switch to “Create new remediation.” No admin action is needed, but users should be informed and documentation updated accordingly. Other functionalities remain unaffected.
