Safe Attachments policy: Retire option ‘Apply the SafeAttachments detection response if scanning cannot complete’

We will be retiring the Safe Attachments option ‘Apply the SafeAttachments detection response if scanning cannot complete (timeout or error)‘ starting early June 2023.

When this will happen:

The change will start rolling out early June 2023 and complete by late June 2023 for WW. For Government clouds, the rollout will start early July 2023 and complete by late July 2023.

How this will affect your organization:

The option ‘Apply the SafeAttachments detection response if scanning cannot complete (timeout or error)’ was added during the early days Safe Attachment policies. However, issues with errors and timeouts in Safe Attachments evaluations have been drastically reduced. In fact, selecting this option today can actually cause false positives (the Safe Attachment policy action is applied to benign messages).

Therefore, this option is being retired. In the future, we’ll add a new option to handle actionable outcomes.

The highlighted option in the screenshot will be retired as per the rollout dates.

Once this change is rolled out, this option is removed from the Safe Attachments policy.

What you need to do to prepare:

No action by admins is required as part of this retirement.
