SharePoint Syntex Per User License End of Sale Notice

On June 30th, 2023 we’re retiring the SharePoint Syntex license. SharePoint Syntex was provided as a per user license that allowed access to Syntex services. Syntex is an add-on license and requires users also to have a license for Microsoft 365.

On July 1st, 2023, customers will no longer be able to purchase the per user license and will need to opt-in to Microsoft Syntex pay-as-you-go billing to continue using existing and new Syntex features. If you have current Syntex per user licenses, these will remain available along with its individual features through the duration of your term. You will be able to renew, if elected, prior to the end of your term.

When this will happen:

On July 1st, 2023, customers will no longer be able to purchase the per user license and will need to opt-in to Microsoft Syntex pay-as-you-go billing to continue using existing and new Syntex features.

How this will affect your organization:

On July 1st, 2023, customers will no longer be able to purchase the per user license and will need to opt-in to Microsoft Syntex pay-as-you-go billing to continue using existing and new Syntex features. If you have current Syntex per user licenses, these will remain available along with its individual features through the duration of your term. You will be able to renew, if elected, prior to the end of your term.

If you remove all Syntex licenses from your tenant at a future date, users will no longer be able to create, publish, or run custom models. Additionally, term store reports, SKOS taxonomy import, and content type push will no longer be available. No models, content, or metadata will be deleted, and site permissions won’t be changed.

What you need to do to prepare:

SharePoint Syntex (per user license) is being replaced by Microsoft Syntex (pay-as-you-go) which provides comprehensive content services coverage across an entire organization to help drive the outcomes our customers need most.

Microsoft Syntex is the evolution of SharePoint Syntex, which takes many of the best capabilities from SharePoint Syntex, introduces new capabilities, and puts them into a single pay-as-you-go offering.  You will be able to renew existing licenses before July 1st, 2023.
