Microsoft Teams: Manage Custom backgrounds in Teams admin center for Teams Rooms on Android devices

Administrators can upload and set images as custom themes in the Teams admin center for Teams devices, allowing images that reflect their organization’s branding. The feature will first launch for Teams Rooms on Android devices and then gradually release for other device types.

Microsoft Syntex: Sensitive information processing model

Microsoft Syntex is introducing a new prebuilt model for identifying and optionally extracting sensitive information from SharePoint document libraries, with a rollout beginning in late May 2024 and completing by late June 2024. Users should be informed about this update.

Microsoft Purview | Data Loss Prevention: Decoupling policy tips and email notifications for SharePoint and OneDrive

Microsoft Purview | Data Loss Prevention will soon allow separate configuration of policy tips and user email notifications for SharePoint and OneDrive, aligning with Microsoft Exchange behavior. Admins can enable either or both features, or neither. Rollout begins mid-May 2024 for Public Preview and mid-June 2024 for General Availability. Configuration can be done via PowerShell or DLP settings post-rollout.

Microsoft Purview | Data Lifecycle Management: New integration with Adaptive protection

Microsoft Purview’s Data Lifecycle Management will soon integrate with Adaptive protection, automatically preserving items deleted by high-risk users. Public preview starts in May 2024. Organizations should enable Adaptive protection to use this feature, which applies a 120-day retention label without manual management.

Microsoft Teams: Draggable Presenter Toolbar when screensharing

Microsoft Teams is introducing a new draggable Presenter Toolbar for screensharing, offering presenters more control and customization. It will roll out in stages from early June to late July 2024, with no preparatory action required for organizations. Presenters can reposition the toolbar and it will collapse when not in use.

Microsoft Purview | Data Loss Prevention: Adaptive Protection integration will be generally available

The integration of Adaptive Protection with Microsoft Purview Data Loss Prevention will be generally available soon, requiring an E5 Compliance license. Organizations previously using Adaptive Protection with certain add-ons will need to upgrade to maintain access after a 180-day grace period. Rollout begins in June 2024.

Microsoft Purview: Improved Custom Trainable Classifier now in Public Preview

Microsoft Purview’s improved Custom Trainable Classifier is now in Public Preview, offering faster training, simpler sample gathering, automatic testing, and clearer creation flow. It supports English files and will replace the existing feature, with full rollout by late June 2024. Unpublished classifiers will be unavailable; users should publish them to retain.

Microsoft Purview compliance portal: Data Lifecycle Management – Record opening behavior improvement in Office client applications (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint)

When a user opens a file in Office client applications (Word, Excel, & PowerPoint) that has a retention label managing the file as a locked record, it will now open as read-only and immediately not allow any user edits. A message will explain to the user why they cannot edit the file. This improvement brings parity to the behavior already in place for the online versions of these Office applications.
