OneDrive: Update to settings pane for PC folder backup

OneDrive plans to make a change to the settings pane for the PC folder backup feature (sometime called Known Folder Move). This settings pane is found by going to OneDrive icon in the system tray then selecting Settings- Sync and backup- Manage backup. The change will introduce toggle buttons to the settings pane along with information showing how much storage, of an end users total storage allotment, will be used by the feature. There is no change to the PC folder backup feature itself which, when enabled, automatically syncs your end user’s Desktop, Documents and Pictures folders on their Windows PC to their OneDrive.

Microsoft Teams will support Targeted Release.  When an admin sets release preferences to one of the Targeted Release options, those users will be first to see the latest updates and help shape the product by providing early feedback. You can choose to have individuals, or the entire organization receive updates early.

Microsoft Teams: Video Closed Captions in PowerPoint Live

Closed Captions will now be supported for embedded videos in PowerPoint Live for Teams. If the video contains out-of-band closed captions, all viewers will automatically have the option to turn closed captions on for the video.

Allow End Users to Upgrade Distribution Lists to Microsoft 365 Groups

Admins will be able to allow end users (owners) of Distribution Lists to upgrade their List to a Microsoft 365 Group themselves. This feature is launching in preview and depending on the usability and feedback on this feature, additional changes may be scheduled in the future.

With this support, users opted-in to Targeted Release will be the first production users to see the latest Microsoft Teams features and help shape the product by providing early feedback.

Prior to this, Targeted Release provided early access to OneDrive for Business, SharePoint Online, Office for the web, Microsoft 365 admin center and some components of Exchange Online.

Microsoft Purview Information barriers v2 (IB v2) is now generally available for all new customers onboarding to IB after February 15, 2023. IB v2 has enhanced architecture which enables the following features:

  • Large scale segment support: The segment limit in organizations has increased from 250 to 5,000 segments.
  • Multi-segment support: Users can be assigned to up to 10 segments instead of being limited to just one segment.
  • Flexible user discoverability: Organizations can now choose to allow IB-protected users to discover each other while adhering to IB communication and collaboration policies.

To align deeper with the OKR methodology, “Projects” in Viva Goals is renamed to “Initiatives”. In addition to changing the default terminology to Initiatives, Viva Goals will also be introducing the ability for organization admins to customize the term to a term of your choosing.

Delete or rename files in a channel and in your OneDrive folder in Teams

To rename or delete a file in a channel, go to the files tab and find the file you want. Then select More options (the three dots) on the file.
