Outlook: Mandatory labeling pre-compose for mobile

We have listened customer feedback on Outlook mobile need meet the mission of “On the Go”, and for organizations have mandatory labeling enabled without default labeling, and would like to have the label selection first before going to compose the email. Then when the users click “Send”, the email could just be sent without any forgotten labeling pop ups. Outlook mobile will introduce a new MDM setting to allow admins to enable this louder mandatory configuration for Outlook mobile clients (iOS and Android) specifically. We will enable Android first in early Q1 of 2023, and iOS will release in Q2 of 2023.

Virtual Appointment as a new Teams Meeting Template

A new Teams Meeting Template, Virtual Appointment, will be added as a new template type accessible from the ‘New meeting’ dropdown menu in the Teams Calendar. This is a free experience that brings enhanced business-to-consumer meeting features into the lightweight and familiar Teams scheduling experience. When meeting with someone from outside of your organization, the Virtual Appointment meeting can be used to ensure the person you are meeting with has a seamless experience with the meeting from start to finish – all without having to learn new tools or leave the standard scheduling flow.

Users can use the Virtual Appointment template instead of a standard Teams meeting for meetings with external users. They can select the meeting type, fill out the tailored scheduling form, including external guests and meeting details, and then send the meeting. The external guests invited will receive a customized meeting invitation that includes key appointment details and a quick-join button, which allows users to join the meeting from anywhere – without downloading Teams – and enter a pre-appointment waiting room before the meeting begins. This provides a familiar experience to internal users and makes external user join a seamless experience.

Syntex content rules allow you to configure simple actions in document libraries based on file metadata. To make it easier to manage uploaded content we are providing two new actions, allowing you to move and copy files based on metadata extracted by Syntex models. For example, you can create a rule to move files tagged with a specific customer name to a specific library. This helps you structure your content architecture with the power of AI-driven processing.

New details on IE11 desktop application permanent disablement scheduled for February 14, 2023

The out-of-support Internet Explorer 11 (IE11) desktop application is scheduled to be permanently disabled on certain versions of Windows 10 devices on February 14, 2023, through a Microsoft Edge update, not a Windows update as previously communicated. All remaining devices that have not already been redirected from IE11 to Microsoft Edge are scheduled to be redirected with the Microsoft Edge update scheduled for February 14, 2023. Similar to how Windows updates work, redirection from IE11 to Microsoft Edge will be included in all future Microsoft Edge updates and will impact all devices within your organization at the same time with no ability for users to reverse the change. Therefore, if your organization still has dependencies on IE11, you must take steps now to complete your transition before February 14, 2023, or risk business disruption at scale when users lose access to IE11-dependent applications. As a reminder, IE11 has been out of support since June 15, 2022.

The change to use Microsoft Edge update to disable IE is intended to provide a better user experience and help organizations transition their last remaining IE11 users to Microsoft Edge. Users will see a dialogue box when they are transitioned to Microsoft Edge. When they try to click any IE11 icons or other entry points, they will be redirected to Microsoft Edge. Users’ browsing data will be automatically brought over to Microsoft Edge from IE11 so they can seamlessly continue browsing.
