Microsoft Viva Engage: The External users feature retires October 1, 2024

The External users feature in Microsoft Viva Engage will be retired on October 1, 2024, to maintain compliance and support Native Mode networks. Users invited as guests before Native Mode must be reinvited as Entra B2B users with Office authentication enabled. No action is required from admins to prepare for this change.

SharePoint Online: Legacy SharePoint Invitation Manager PowerShell cmdlets have retired

The SharePoint Online Management Shell’s cmdlets for the legacy SharePoint Invitation Manager have been retired, with no further use for external sharing scenarios. Organizations can no longer use specific properties for ‘Set-SPOTenant’ related to legacy external invitations, and no admin action is required.

Introducing Config Refresh for mobile device management

A new Windows 11 feature is available to help you manage your company’s policies using mobile device management (MDM). Starting with the May 2024 non-security update, you can now use Config Refresh to configure policy refresh timing to be as short as 30 minutes or as long as 24 hours. This helps improve security and compliance as you monitor that settings don’t drift from your intent. Microsoft Secure Score – changing Microsoft Defender for Identity recommendation

The Microsoft Secure Score improvement action for Microsoft Defender for Identity is being updated to better reflect security posture. The recommendation to manage accounts with passwords older than 180 days will be removed from the UI, with the score adjusted accordingly. Rollout starts mid-July 2024, no admin action needed.

Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps: Files page retires September 1, 2024

The Files page in Microsoft Defender for Cloud Apps will be retired on September 1, 2024. Users should use the Policy Management page for creating, modifying, and exploring Information Protection policies and malware files. This change affects users currently utilizing the Files page.

Microsoft Defender XDR learning resources have moved to Microsoft Learn, with updates accessible from the Microsoft Defender XDR page. Organizations should inform users and update documentation. Rollout begins early July 2024, completing by mid-July.

Teams Rooms on Android and Teams Phones impacted by retirement of legacy notifications infrastructure: UPGRADE REQUIRED!

Legacy notification infrastructure for chat messaging in Teams Rooms on Android and Teams Phones will retire on July 31, 2024. Updates to specific app versions are required to avoid disruption. The change does not affect Teams Rooms on Windows or Surface Hub devices, nor Teams Panels.

Classic Microsoft Teams end of support reminder and removing the NEW label

Classic Microsoft Teams support will end on July 1, 2024, with the ‘NEW’ label removed from the new Teams app mid to late July 2024. Classic Teams will be unavailable on certain OS from October 23, 2024, and for all users by July 1, 2025. Users should update their OS and Teams client to avoid disruptions.

Out-of-band updates to address Azure Synapse SQL issue caused by Windows updates

Microsoft has identified an issue wherein Azure Synapse SQL Serverless Pool databases enter a “Recovery pending” state, and has expedited a resolution. This issue is observed after installing the June 2024 Windows security update on Windows Server 2022 (KB5039227), Windows Server, version 23H2 (KB5039236), and Azure Stack HCI versions 23H2 and 22H2 (KB5039227). An out-of-band (OOB) update has been released for Windows Server 2022 and Azure Stack HCI, version 22H2 today, June 20, 2024, to address this issue. The resolution for the other platforms affected by this issue will be available in future Windows updates.
