As of October 10, 2023, Home, Pro, Pro for Workstations, and Pro Education editions of Windows 11, version 21H2 have reached end of servicing. The October 2023 security update, released on October 10, 2023, is the last update available for these editions. After this date, devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates containing protections from the latest security threats. Enterprise, Education, IoT Enterprise, and Enterprise multi-session editions for this version will reach end of servicing on October 8, 2024 and will receive security updates until then.

Windows Autopatch availability within Microsoft Intune admin center

If you use Microsoft Managed Desktop, Windows Autopatch is now available as an additional option in Microsoft Intune admin center. Windows Autopatch is a service that automates Windows, Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise, Microsoft Edge, and Microsoft Teams updates, while offering security and productivity solutions.

Pin based verification process for support callers

In 2020, we added a PIN-based verification step to our existing phone-based verification process, to better protect your organization. If you call support, the Microsoft support representative will send a verification code to your registered email or phone in your Admin Center profile. Provide this code to the support representative to grant them access to your organization’s account.

New security capabilities of Event Tracing for Windows

Whether you’re in cybersecurity, IT, performance, or software development, improved resources can help you diagnose cybersecurity threats. While you could previously use Event Tracing for Windows for limited audit functions, nine events have recently been improved for better insight. Specifically, several security-related events now show Process ID and Process Start Key in the event schema, allowing you to confirm the causal process of these events. We’ve also increased the event version as events are updated over time, following the application compatibility policy.

Security hardening changes for Kerberos effective with the October 10, 2023 Windows Update

Windows updates released today, October 10, 2023, and later, conclude the rollout of security enforcement to protect Windows Server domain controllers (DC) against a Kerberos security bypass vulnerability. This vulnerability also involves an elevation of privilege scenario and alteration of Privilege Attribute Certificate (PAC) signatures. All domain-joined, machine accounts are affected by these vulnerabilities.

Business Connectivity Services (BCS) retirement

SharePoint has a long history of helping users work with external data inside the SharePoint user experience. As SharePoint has evolved into a cloud-first service, so too have the options for customers that wish to integrate with external data sources. To simplify these options and provide the best experience for these scenarios going forward, Microsoft is announcing its plan to retire Business Connectivity Services (BCS) in Microsoft 365 and focus on Microsoft Power Apps as its replacement technology.

Stream (Classic) to be disabled on Oct 15, 2023 unless you take action

This is a reminder regarding a previous message center post “Stream Migration Tool and Delay Settings are Now Generally Available” MC516263

Starting on October 15, 2023 your users will no longer be able to access Stream (Classic) unless you take action to delay this change. This change can be delayed until April 15, 2024.
