Retiring and updating columns in the advanced hunting EmailEvents and EmailAttachmentInfo tables

We’ve streamlined our threat detection information better, replacing four separate columns for malware and phishing verdict information with three new columns that can accommodate spam and other threat types. This change widens our ability to give you more information about the type of email threat beyond malware and phishing.

Azure SSL/TLS Certificate Changes

In early November, DigiCert replaced the certificate of an Intermediate Certificate Authority (ICA) which issues SSL/TLS certificates used by Azure Active Directory (Azure AD) services, such as Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365, in the Public and US Government Clouds. In most cases, no action is required. However, if you explicitly hard code (i.e. “pin”) the ICA certificates to be trusted or have custom solutions that depend on storing ICA certificates in a trust store, you will need to take action as soon as possible in order to avoid service disruptions.

Note: We expect that most customers will not be impacted. You may be impacted, however, if you have applications that explicitly specify a list of trusted ICAs, either by hard coding them (“certificate pinning”) or by operating a trust store.

  • Phish delivered due to an IP allow policy
  • Phish delivered due to an ETR override.
  • Phish delivered because a user’s Junk Mail Folder is disabled.
  • Phish not zapped because ZAP is disabled.
  • Malware not zapped because ZAP is disabled.

Changes to private Content Delivery Networks (CDN)

A content delivery network is a temporary cache storage location designed to optimizethe user experience by providing static files like images, JavaScript, stylesheets, and font files directly from cache locations closest to the user.

In SharePoint Online there are two primary CDNs that are available to handle your static files. One CDN is public and manages JavaScript, stylesheets, and font files. The other CDN is private and is designed to manage images. The public CDN will remain unchanged at this time and should be enabled to handle your JavaScript, stylesheets, and font files, subject to approval by your compliance, security, and privacy teams.
